
A strict stance on the disturbance of medieval material was followed in the Stave Church Programme. The bell tower at Borgund was an exception. Here, extensive replacements were made to the medieval stave construction so the bell tower could be preserved in situ. The source value of the renovated parts was ensured by meticulously documenting and storing the material. You will hear more about the bell tower at Borgund later in the course.
