Arsenic has earned the deadly moniker "la poudre de l'heritage" or "inheritance powder" because of the long history of its use as a poison. Arsenic trioxide or white arsenic, the most common arsenic compound, dissolves almost tracelessly into drinks and food (especially alcohol) and can be easily administered by cunning heirs eager to inherit money and other assets earlier than expected. Arsenic poisoning causes vomiting, severe abdominal cramps, and convulsions (among other symptoms) and generally leads to death.
